Taken from The Star:
KOTA BARU: The municipal council's latest advisory on lipstick and high heels is not going down well with female sales promoters here.
A survey by The Star revealed that many of them felt that the council had gone overboard.
The circular “advising” women not to apply lipstick and wear leather high heels was distributed at premises licensed by the MPKB.
It was aimed at Muslim females working there.
While they said they accepted the wearing of tudung as part of the MPKB's directive to women in retail outlets, they could not understand what the fuss was about lipstick and high heels.
“I disagree. I do not think there is anything negative about women wearing high heels,” said sales promoter Wan Noriana Wan Yaacob, 23.
She said MPKB should then have to have a buy-back counter for high heel shoes if it was going to stop her from wearing it.
Norshuhaida Che Nasir, 19, a salesgirl at an outlet that sells lipstick, was outraged.
She said that at least natural colour lipstick should be allowed.
“I actually agree with the negative side to putting on excessive make-up. It is like looking at a living corpse.”
Shamira Salleh, 25, from Kampung Laut in Tumpat, said that women did not have to look sexy to get raped.
“Even a schoolgirl who does not apply lipstick or wear high heels can get raped.
“They (MPKB) should reconsider the advice,” she added.
Believe me, I do get a bit tired posting news like these. When will the men leaders and lawmakers understand that girls trying to be pretty isn't a lure to sexual crime unto themselves?

I do not agree about this issue. Sigh why keep stopping woman from doing this and that? So, man's guilt for harassing, raping, sodomizing etc and woman get the punishment? How cruel! Malaysia? Hopeless... :(
Yeah, it's totally unfair to blame women for crimes done to them, while the offenders got off the hook..
Sigh~ getting fed up with things like these shit. Those people should know we are living in the 21st century globalized world. They should concentrate on issues like poverty, youth employment and the environment instead governing on what we should wear and protesting the recent sport event concert by local artists... We gonna be a laughing stock of other countries.
So much for the term "Malaysia Boleh"
Totally unreasonable. Goddamn hoping this won't happen to Kedah even though personally I'm not too big on make-up. Them blaming us females for igniting the male's sexual desire. Well, how about this: some males arouse me too, let's make them cover up, no?
S7even: Good point, it's so true that they should concentrate more on improving poverty and repairing the economics back than just focusing on stupid limitations like these.
karat: hahah love ur analogy on this.. Only the sales promoters are imposed on such rules currently, just pray they won't extend it to all citizens as well.
Unsure if religion is to be blamed here, but the way these religious leaders make the rulings, no wonder everyone thinks Islam is oppressive to women. I myself have been in denial for years. It's too obvious in my uni that girls are second-class citizens, and the sole excuse is always that girls need to be protected, whatever issue it may be.
Women are generally weaker than men in terms of physical strength, its a fact. but that doesn't exactly made us weak in everything and need protection all the time. It is in fact sometimes that the girls themselves sought for protection and attention instead, as it's definitely easier to be protected than to protect others.
Yes, that is correct. One of my dissatisfactions is that girls are not allowed to frequent the Karak highway stalls that can be accessed from inside my uni. The route IS creepy, and I understand it's for our safety. But the girls who went there were those who knew and were willing to take this risk, and there were very few. Plus we went in cars, not by walking, not by motorcycle, 'cos we knew that if anything bad happened, it would always go back to us: sapa suruh pegi Karak?
Plus other small, trivial matters, some of which are not related to religion but still make us feel unappreciated nonetheless, like guys getting free LAN in their dorms and we girls having to pay RM1 per hour for shitty wi-fi that doesn't work most of the time. Yeah, I am one complaining bitch. =)
>_> weird rules. make rules that can make malaysia up pls not something that only want to limits others. try limit urself 1st then only say others. and who are the rapers??! limit them before limit us! duh
haha sakura... did you refer to man? :P well, there is nothing wrong for wearing lipstick. i agree...
the security should be tighten. police should be always aware and stationed at many places.
rapers! =P man ar? hihi if u want to say so then =P
yup agree on the security. sigh actually a bit blame to girls also. want go somewhere dont go through the dark alley pls! >_>
but then whats the different this rule can make? lol. u should add up more lights la and security camera everywhere specially the place that ppl rarely walk by. coz those place are rapers fav place to drag their victim and do their "job". and yah dont forget to monitor it! LoL
I don't believe this.. the council should spend their resources and time on tightening security and educating the public (on the proper way of dealing/preventing rape) instead of doing silly little things like these.
We need more mature leaders. *grumbles*
ruful ramainye reply XD
