"KILL ! KILL EVERYTHING!!"

Nope.
I'm not crazy, yet. This is not an emo post either.

It's actually a line of song lyrics from Detroit Metal City, a metal rock band in the same titled manga "Detroit Metal City" by Kiminori Wakasugi. This manga, "DMC" for short, isn't exactly the type of manga style series I would pick up by just looking at the cover. The truth was, I've only got interested in reading this after "Right Turn Only" aka RTO column in Anime News Network did a review on the series. DMC is categorized into seinen manga, which means it's meant for older male readers.
If you're a regular shounen or shoujo manga fans, there's quite the possibility that you won't even want to flip the pages. But if you'll like to take the challenge, continue ahead!

Detroit Metal City Vol01 cover from Scum-scan

Taken from Anime News Network:
Sōichi Negishi is a shy young man who came from the rural Ota Prefecture to Tokyo for college and wished to become a kindergarten teacher. However, for some reason he became the singer and songwriter of a metal band named "Detroit Metal City," with a stage name "Johannes Krauser II." Whenever he wears the heavy makeup, Negishi becomes a completely different person, shouting the most vulgar profanities beyond anyone's imagination. With the popularity of DMC increases, Negishi starts worrying his double personalities can have negative effects on his (romantic) life off stage.

Just by the look of "Krauser II" on the cover could have turn alot of 'normal' readers off, but those that stayed, it's definitely worth a read. Currently there are 5 volumes up in Japan and you can get the scanslation of this series from Scum-scans. Both DMC adaptation-anime and live action movie are to be released in this month too, you can get the subbed version of DMC Special from Ureshii fansub. Beware that the anime adaptation style is almost exactly like in the manga, you might not be able to stomach it well. There's also a small surprise from the DMC anime! Nagasawa Masami, (the female lead character Rei in Proposal Daisakusen and Michiru in Last Friends, check out this post for more info) is going to voice-cast the girl character that Negishi had crush with!

The live action movie is actually the very reason why I'm so interested to blog this. The actor who will be "Negishi" and his crazy-looking alter ego is actually Matsuyama Ken'ichi, the actor who has gotten extremely popular as "L" in Death Note movies! Alot of his fans would probably get quite a shock with his newest movie role, but I'm actually quite amazed by his ability to perform in weird character roles, and not sticking to just a fixed image, from mysterious and cool-looking "L" to a nerdy look of "Negishi" and to a crazy and scary-looking death metal band vocalist "Krauser II"! Here's a trailer for the movie to satisfy your curiosity. The movie will be on the big screen in Japan on 23rd August:

Oh by the way, if you haven't seen Matsuyama Ken'ichi as "L" before, here's an eye candy for you:
