Flat by Aogiri Natsu - Irresistably Cute!

It's been a while since my very last post (4 months ago >.<). These 4 months are quite packed with events, and eventhough I had the time, I lacked energy and passion to blog about anything else. It's just recently, I was encouraged by my colleague to start posting again, so here I am to present my newest manga interest:

Heisuke is a young man who was left in charge of taking care of his little cousin Aki for a day. Being an only child who usually stays at home alone, Aki is quiet, reserved, and will go out of his way not to make trouble for others. As they spend more time together, Aki begins to grow very attached to Heisuke, especially since Heisuke's hobby is to make sweets and desserts. The quiet Aki eventually opens up to Heisuke, and Heisuke in return teaches Aki that sometimes it's all right to be selfish and say what you really want to do.

'Flat' is a josei series by Aogiri Natsu, which is her first published work (if I'm not mistaken). Currently ongoing with 2 volumes out, this series mainly deals with interaction scenes of a 'going his own pace' high-school student, Heisuke and his little cousin, Aki.
For a slice-of-life genre, the story flows nicely with the pace and perfected with neat and clean artwork. The characters are slowly given more dimensions later in the chapters, which means it's definitely getting better... And Heisuke's character really reminded me of Ginko from Mushishi, eventhough their personalities aren't at all similar.
If you have read Yotsubato! and love watching Yotsuba's antic, then there's another more reason to love Aki in 'Flat'. Aogiri Natsu made Aki almost exactly the opposite side of Yotsuba, albeit with extra cuteness that you can't stop yourself wanting to cuddle Aki whenever he made his moments. While Yotsubato! brings more cute factors by having wacky characters and fun scenes, 'Flat' uses more "ordinarily realistic" way to bring out its humor and sweetness. If you enjoy reading relaxing and heart-warming series that doesn't have all melodramas and dizzying fast action, this series definitely suit up your taste!
